(Virtual Youths Meeting and Networking on Second Life (E-learning Activity)

I find this virtual experience very unique and interesting. When I entered the SecondLife account, I am amazed about the unique features such as the different gestures, movement and on top of that the different people across the world. I find that this virtual experience is a very good and efficient way to interact with people across the globe and having to meet more new friends and that is the best part for me through this virtual experience that I cannot get in real-life. Basically to me, I do observe mannerism/ behaviors and ethics when I meet new friends on secondlife. By having a good mannerism, behaviors and ethics it proves to me that the person is nice and approaching and I would the dare to chat with that person and to know more about that person. This is because mannerism/ behaviors/ ethics, portrays how the person is in real life to me.  The experience I had virtually meeting with my new Hong Kong friend name BillyNg was great and I would say it was an easy go with the flow meeting. It started off with a simple” Hello” and we settled down somewhere in the library nearby to avoid the crowd to ask and answer each other questions. I like the behaviors/ mannerism and ethics that my new friend portrays and he also did help me in some of the features such as “How to sit down” as I am quite clueless about that. Basically we exchange a lot of different information that we had and I learnt quite a number of new things from him about Hong Kong and himself through the research question. Throughout the meeting, I felt comfortable talking and asking him questions and I am sure he felt the same way too. It was definitely easier and interesting experience for me than what I expected. After, we finished our task we did exchange our email and we added each other up on facebook and also msn. In addition, I have gained quite a number of things through this e-learning experience, not only the fun part of meeting new friends or the new information but also it makes me become a much more confident person by approaching strangers and talk to them or respond to strangers when they talk to me, which I would never had done in real-life. Basically, the most challenging experience I had was heading to a certain destination places. When I started to explore the second life places, I got lost so often as I was so clueless that I could teleport from places to places and that there was a map. Despite reading the “Olive” slides, I still could not figure out the different unique features such as “teleport” until I try reading the slides over and over again for a couple of time. However overall, I love the unique experience and below are the picture of me and my new friend.

1.   How do you feel about posting your views on the topic posted on Facebook Group Discussion Forum?  Can you express your views freely?

I felt more free and confident posting my views on the Facebook Group Discussion Forum as I can write exactly how I feel without limitations of words or time and also I can just write what I truly feel without having any doubts or worries if what I say is wrong or inappropriate. To summarize, I felt very free to express my honest opinion / view, on the Facebook Group Discussion Forum.

2.   How does this online discussion experience compared with traditional face-to-face in-class discussions?

This online discussion experience is a very unique and interesting experience for me. As compared to a traditional face-to-face in class discussion, I am able to voice out my opinion without having any worries that my group mates disagree or not going to accept what I am going to say. Through this online discussion I feel that it is a good start up for me, myself, to actually be more confident in voicing out my views and honest opinion. Not only that, after reading some of the views from my friends I have more ideas to think of about what I am going to say. Other than that, for me personally, I think better when I am alone and no one influencing my views.

3.   Do you find this online activity meaningful? Why?

 I find this online activity meaningful as it somehow boost up my confidence in a way, which is to voice out my views and honest opinion without any doubts. This is a very effective way for me to gain more ideas or even knowledge also, after reading what the others wrote on the discussion board too.

My Research Topic is:

"Discuss the trends of youth spending habits"

After doin this research, I found out alot of information about how does alot of things affects youth spending trends.

 Influencer such as media, magazine, online reviews , family/friends, Environmental issues, Geographical areas, Pride when buying luxury/ branded goods plays a role in their spending trends. I also managed to find out that most youths loves to shop for clothing, accesories and food. Last but not least most of this research did stated that online is a youth favorite spending trend.

Firstly, if I am given $500, I would not spend it on one particular thing, instead I would get a few things that would total up to $500 as I think that is much more worthwhile.

 So the first thing I would get is an Ed Hardy Tank Top (Christian Audiger) blue in color, which is my personal favorite for $51.44. I find the top really pretty yet simple and the most importantly can wear it at any occasion.

That's how I would spent my $500 with a great smile on my face. Despite all these things, I still have $47.73 left which I would keep as I don't have anything else to buy.

Basically, I have searched all these items through ebay as to me ebay is a trusted site for online shopping. Furthermore, I get exactly the things that I wanted and had wished for from ebay.
I had learn that it is actually not that easy to decide what to purchase if I had $500. However after much consideration, I had chosen what I felt was worth the price and at the same time lovely and pretty.

Effective Internet Research About Myself

My name is Rafidah, taking a Diploma In Gerontological Management Studies (Humanities course) that specialise more to the elderly people. My favourite past time is hanging out with friends, watch movies, picnic, shopping, listening to music and play badminton. My favorite singer of all time is Jay Sean and Imran Khan. I like them not only because of their dashing looks but also because of their soothing voice and meaningful songs that I can easily relate with myself whenever i hear their songs. I also love Bruno Mars, Akon, Darisu Campbell, Shontelle, Cherly Cole and boy bands such as Backstreet boys , Blue and Westlife. My favorite hang out place is Little India, Farrer Park , Plaza Singapure and also Arab Street. These places offers so much unique things that is rarely to be found in a normal shopping mall that we always go in terms of food, accecories and even clothes. My favorite internet sites is facebok, twitter and going to my favorite Singers websites to update myself about their new updates .

One skill that i possess is drawing henna painting on people's hand. Basically it started off as a liking but eneded off as a hobby i would say. I couldn't draw that well but not too bad I guess when I tried always on my friend's hand. To me, everyone is able to have this skill as long as they love and like henna painting cause its like art, you must be brave to try and explore it.To find out more, maybe you can try doin henna painting often at places like Little India and just observe how they do it or an easier way, just watch youtube.
